Puma or Pujos

The other day I was listening to Mike and Mike and they had baseball analyst Peter Gammons on. They asked him, who the most feared batter in the national league was. Without hesitation he said Albert Pujos. Although, just about any body's first inclination is to agree with this, I ask why not, Lance "Big Puma " Berkman? Sure Pujols has slightly better career numbers, and we as astros fans hold him in the same regard as oiler fans hold the Buffalo Bills, but this season Lance has the slightly better numbers. Now I'm not going to sit here and cut and paste the exact numbers for you. You can find all that on countless websites. However, I will tell you that Lance's average with runners in scoring position (RISP) is higher. His average with RISP and 2 outs is higher. Puma is also a switch hitter, so late in games when the bullpen is up, he can be that Left or right handed batter need for the situation. All I'm saying is next time somebody says Albert" Lidge Lovin'" Pujols is the most feared batter in the National League, you just say," what about Puma?"

Right now the Puma is as hot as any hitter to lug a bat up to the plate. The sporting media can say what they want to but just ask the opposing pitchers that are routinely getting shelled with hit after hit by this guy. If you were to ask Pujos or Puma, you can't just consider what is going on at the plate though. Defensively Lance is also more than getting it done. He has proven that when given an everyday position at first he is just plain getting it done. The last few seasons he was asked to switch out between first and the outfield which in my opinion, was like asking Oswald to switch out as catcher! Lance is a pure first baseman and it's about time he is given that role exclusively. His baserunning skills have also vastly improved over previous seasons. He is the best all around player in the league right now hands down. Add to that the fact that the Stros have finally surrounded him with talented batters and you have the makings of a league MVP when all is said and done!
